Fishing tips and advice for the summer
17 June 2021

Here are some tips and advice for summer brook and rainbow trout fishing.

More specifically for the months of July and August when the water temperature is warmer

It is important to know that trout are sensitive to heat and that during heat waves they will take refuge in the cooler areas of the lake. In other words, deep down to about 20 feet (6 m) deep and even at the bottom. Here is the bathymetric map of the lake to help you.

For the classic line rig we will then use a slightly heavier spinner than in the spring (Toronto Wobbler or Clear Wobbler) we will add a small pinch weight on the line. The leader will be approximately 30 inches.

It is then necessary to fish with the dead line or the “jig”, or by letting the lure descend beyond 20 feet. Or by making a small movement back and forth to make the lure go up and down in the 20 foot zone always.

For fly fishers, it is possible to use a plumb line leaving a hundred feet long behind the boat so that the fly stalls 15 to 20 feet while letting the engine move slowly.

There are no favored colors or lures, it’s better to have a few different props to increase your chances of success. If a lure does not work after 1 hour, change color or type of lure.

Pay attention to the small movement of your rod in order to properly shoe your grip. Sometimes she may just come and tease you, just bite off a little bit of your verse?. Early in the morning and at the end of the day are the best times to fish. Lunchtime when it is the hottest of the day, take the opportunity to have a little picnic, swim or take a nap.

Berckley’s Atomic Teaser and Power Nymph are also successful on the lake.

Be open to new techniques, because even if a certain technique worked in another lake or another day it may not work today…

Finally, do not hesitate to ask us for advice at the reception. We can give you advice adapted to the weather of the day and according to the results of the last few days.
